Bad or interesting translations
很多电影或者电视剧的翻译在我看来有错，可能有一些我不知道的法则，如果我错了请给我发邮件。这里记录今年(2022年)起遇到的
还有一些有趣的翻译也会放在这里
¶Sling
sling做俗语的时候是售卖的意思(通常用在违法物品上)，左图既然是《绝命毒师》的内容，可以看到shard是代指的他们制作的片状drug，应该是一种crystal meth。所以这里的翻译也是错的。右图是《铁杉树丛》中的片段作为佐证。
¶Guinea pig
非常有意思的事情是用“guinea pig”也就是豚鼠来代指实验的对象，实际上和中文语境下用“小白鼠”（实验用小鼠 lab rat ）并不指代同一个物种，因此在翻译这个词的时候很难在“信”和“达”之间抉择。
若译为豚鼠则失于达，以为小白鼠则失于信，很难抉择。
事实上当前做实验往往很少使用豚鼠，英文语境下之所以还在用guinea pig 可能是由于历史原因，曾经可能豚鼠用得更多，可以参见这里，以下也摘录大意。
Guinea pigs might not be the most common experimental subjects today, but we have to look at how common they were when the term was first coined, which was many decades ago, as Etymonline points out:
In the extended sense of “one subjected to an experiment” it is first recorded 1920, because they were commonly used in vivisection experiments.
Wikipedia seems to be backing that up:
Biological experimentation on guinea pigs has been carried out since the 17th century. The animals were frequently used as a model organism in the 19th and 20th centuries, resulting in the epithet “guinea pig” for a test subject, but have since been largely replaced by other rodents such as mice and rats.
¶Nice touch
这里touch 作细节讲，可以直译无需意译，按照阴阳怪气的语气可以翻译成，“小细节不错”，当然如果不是Sheldon讲，完全可以是正面的意思。

Sheldon: My new roommate is bending over backwards to ingratiate himself to me. Uh, nice touch, by the way.
¶Janitor
很奇怪为什么有些字典把janitor翻译成看门人，Janitor往往是指清洁工的意思，去图片搜索出来的结果都是类似下图的清洁工形象，Wikipedia[1]里也强调了清洁的含义。而看门人，正常会认为是Guard，或者是旅店前台的concierge吧？我不太懂是不是我的中文出了问题，看门人包含保洁的意思吗？一会去采访几个朋友。

it应该是指险境本身
: to succeed in surviving or getting through (something dangerous or harmful that cannot be stopped or avoided) The ship/crew rode out the storm. We managed to ride out the stock market downturn.
¶Talk shop
完全不是闲聊的意思，是谈工作的意思，虽然是在非正式场合闲聊工作，但是翻成聊工作更合适。
¶Underdog
在《饥饿游戏》里也有这句，也翻的很奇怪，
So you like an underdog?Everyone likes an underdog.
所以你喜欢被压迫者?人人都喜欢受压迫的人
实际上是说人人喜欢弱者,和被压迫、物美价廉没有关系。
¶丁香和酸橙
clove 和lilac 中文都是丁香, 但是两者的英文不同, 实际上拉丁文看这是两种完全不同的植物, 很奇怪中文丁香为什么指两种植物. 谷歌翻译如果输入丁香会翻译成clove, 输入丁香花会翻译成lilac. 还挺有趣.
那戴望舒的《雨巷》[1:1]指的是哪一种丁香呢？这个问题那就留给读者们自己去考据吧！还是很简单的.

lime指的是青柠, 知道这个词是从Android有一版准备叫key lime pie来着, 后来发现酒吧里面的酒也经常用, mojito之类的都会放lime, 但是其实key lime 和lime也不是一种植物, 和lemon就相差更远了, 但是有些人谈到鸡尾酒直接说这个酒是柠檬味, 可能是因为读书少吧, 所以对自己专业的事情也用不清楚名词.
